Housing Choices Australia provides safe, quality, affordable housing for people who are disadvantaged or struggling to afford a home in Australia's private rental market. I was commissioned to produce a series of short web documentaries exploring the personal stories of Housing Choices Australia tenants and staff.

Bridgette, Resident: Mellor St, Adelaide Every day, Bridgette and her six-year-old son Matthew “do a daily gratitude”. “We love our house,” the single mum who lives at Common Ground Mellor Street explains, admitting the thanking ritual is “a bit coached” by her. Bridgette bought her first house when she was 21 and had $1 million worth of property by 30 – before her world turned “upside down”. “It’s your sole responsibility to make sure your child is loved, fed and sheltered. “To not have confidence that you can shelter your child is just awful.” Since moving from private rental to CGA 18 months ago, Bridgette and Matthew’s life has changed – for the better. “Shelter is (now) something I don’t have to worry about,” she says. “My biggest motivation is Matthew’s happiness….He has shone more because Mummy’s happy. It’s his time and he deserves it.” Bridgette and Matthew are active participants in the CGA community and Bridgette is also has been employed as a contract cleaner for the organisation. She feels privileged to be able to give something back. “If we can give them (new tenants) a beautiful place to come to and they feel worth something. That, to me, is utopia.”
